You know it’s going to be a good day when the first e-mail you open reads:
“Just wanted to pass on the good news asap. I just had a call from David Miller, who is on the board of the Theodore Gordon Fly Fishers. Last night, the board voted to make a $5,000 gift to the Orvis/TU 1,000 Miles Campaign! They have been trying to do some work on culvert restoration independently and, after running into many obstacles, they decided to support our work instead.“
The note, from Orvis’ Daryl Kenny, was exactly what the doctor ordered–just yesterday, we conducted a conference call with a host of fly fishing bloggers, hoping to spread the word about this new partnership between TU and Orvis that’s meant to address the significant challenge of faulty culverts on trout streams all across America. The idea is simple–we want to remove or repair enough faulty culverts to open up 1,000 miles of new habitat for trout and salmon and for the benefit of the fishing community. More habitat equals more fishing.
Orvis is challenging its customers to contribute a total of $90,000 to the 1,000 Miles Campaign, and the company will match it, dollar for dollar. With this generous donation from the Theodore Gordon Flyfishers, the fund is not $5,000 richer … it’s $10,000 richer.
So … to the great folks at TGF, thank you. Your donation will go a long way toward improving trout and salmon habitat and making fishing better.
Like I said, what a great way to start the day.
