The Denver Post reports that both private and public entities like the idea of building a 500-mile pipeline to pump water from the Flaming Gorge area to thirsty Front Range communities. Does TU like the idea? Not so much. Besides the steep energy and economic costs, building a pipeline of that magnitude would have significant environmental impacts, including on Green River trout habitat. As Wyoming Water Project director Scott Yates pointed out, “it’s hard to imagine that fisheries in the home basin would not get the short end of the stick.”
