Hello anglers and conservationists. Welcome to Trout magazine’s new blog. We’ll be posting supplemental information about pressing conservation issues and hopefully start some good conversations about the latest fly-fishing news. So check back often and let us know what you think by using the comments feature at the bottom of every post.

This blog is a great idea.
I second Kirk’s idea. I enjoy keeping up with my blogs via a reader (I use Google). It would be very helpful to have a feed for this blog so I could monitor it through my reader.

The idea of a blog is a great idea. The blog might help with TU magazine having a little more focus on the Northeast part of the country. Pennsylvania & New York has some of the best flyfishing in the county but is seem like TU magazine focuses on the west. Hopefully the blog will create more wide spread
interest.

Thanks for coming to the blog. Per your suggestions, we are working with our webmaster to get an RSS feed up and running. We’ll post as soon as it’s ready.

With respect to the recent article in Trout, “The swearing in of a new president and Congress,” and the lead item, “Get Serious About Climate Change,” I must respond. Notwithstanding Al Gore’s self-serving movie, “Inconvenient Truth,” there is no scientific evidence for man-made climate change. So-called “global warming” is all about politics and nothing about science. For Trout magazine to continue to trumpet the left-wing environmental mantra in an otherwise reputable publication is to do a disservice to well-meaning sportsmen. I cannot condone, much less pay for, the purposeful promulgation of untruths, regardless of an organization’s good intentions. While I am not cancelling my TU membership, I will not be renewing it next year. I can get this kind of global warming baloney on CNN for free.

Re; Southern Applachian Brook Trout in the Upper Tellico River in North Carolina
A high percentage of Southern Applachian Brook Trout caught in this river system are being accidentally killed by fishermen due to the use of “single hook natural baits”. I’m trying to jump start an initiative to change the current “natural bait” designation to a “single hook artificial lures” designation.
Based on laymen’s research most of the fishermen in this section use natural baits and are deep hooking most of the brooks caught. Most don’t survive the experience and the use of single hook artificals only would greatly improve their chances to survive.
Anyone with an interest in the preservation of Southern Applachian Brook Trout and/or the Tellico River System are invited to comment.
